Lyon Saint Exupery Airport (LYS) Information: History and Facilities
Saint Exupery Airport came into being during 1975, when an increasing number of passenger flights first began. Built as a replacement for the existing Lyon Bron Airport, which was unable to expand, Saint Exupery Airport was an immediate success.
The mid-1990s played an important part in the airport's history, when a new rail link allowed fast TGV trains to travel to Saint Exupery Airport, connecting prominent stations such as the Gare de Lyon in Paris. At the turn of the new millennium, Lyon Airport was officially named Saint Exupery Airport (LYS), honouring the famous French pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Travellers arriving at Lyon's Saint Exupery Airport can expect to find ATM machines, currency exchange services and a post office. There are also plenty of shops, a large department store and duty-free outlets. Several bars and restaurants are located throughout both terminals, along with an airport hotel and a travel agency.
Saint Exupery Airport boasts an excellent business centre, with 11 meeting rooms of various sizes that can be fully equipped to suit visitors' needs, catering for up to 80 people. Fax and Minitel services are also available in the connecting hall and are located opposite the post office. Other business facilities can be found at the on-site Sofitel Lyon Aeroport hotel or at other nearby airport hotels in the Lyon area.
